Matobo Hills Lodge
Matobo Hills lodge is a luxury facility which is built on a rock. It is situated within Matobo National Park, approximately 48 kilometres outside Bulawayo. The lodge comprises 18 chalets. All the chalets are thatched and they have en-suite facilities, modern furnishings in earthy colours and ethnic tones. All rooms are equipped with tea/coffee station, air conditioner and hot showers. The main area has the restaurant and bar; guests can unwind while they take in the lovely view of Maleme Valley. Guests needing to connect with the rest of the world can access W-ifi from these points. In warm weather guests can take a dip in the glistening pool or take advantage of the variety of leisure activities to do within the area. There are some Caves that are close to the lodge, that were used by the Ndebele tribe who lived in the area some hundreds of years ago and guests can take a hike high up in the rocks to see the grain bins they used to hide food provisions from marauders. Drives into the park will also give guests the chance to see rock art left by Bushmen. Half day or full day visits into the national park are offered, for some rhino trekking as well as visits to Worlds view, a scenic point located within the park.
Antelope Park
Situated just 6 kilometres from Gweru, (Harare-Bulawayo highway) Antelope Park is the perfect place to turn in for weary travellers and holiday makers alike. It is a beautiful park with comfortable amenities in a stunning unspoilt environment. Antelope Park is family friendly facility which offers various accommodation options for diverse needs. For couples and small families there are full board and self-catering options available, the River tents, River lodges and the Alert Lodge are suitable. They offer comfortable multiple bedrooms with double beds, twin beds and bunks in flexible arrangements. All rooms come with showers and baths, heaters, fans and tea making facilities. The bedrooms are spacious and for self-catering units such as the Alert Lodge, the kitchen comes fully equipped. Guests can relax and view the gorgeous views of the river and look out for game and birds. Budget accommodation is also available with standard rooms offering simple but comfortable twin beds per room. Rates include full breakfast, and use of external ablution facilities plus pool access. For the adventurous a campsite is conveniently located within the park and guests may spot animals wandering into the park. Campers can make use of the braai facility or take some or all meals from the main camp. There is communal ablution block for both men and women, a sheltered dining area and several plug points. Lastly group lodges are also available offering unbelievable comfort, space and beauty. Fully decked in teak, the largest complex can accommodate up to 20 people.
Thetford Game Reserve
Thetford Game Reserve is only forty minutes away from Harare out on the Mazowe Road and is the perfect place to visit with family and friends. Thetford offers game drives either half day or full day, lunch, snacks and drinks are provided and you can enjoy the feeding of the rhinos at the end of the day. As well as seeing plenty of other different animals such as Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo and Impala. There are two family lodges available for rent, this is on a self-catering basis, with a member of staff to help with cooking and cleaning. Clients should bring their own swimming towels and decoder if they would like to make use of the DSTV.
Mbizi Game Park
Just outside Harare’s city limits is the prime wilderness estate Mbizi Game Park. A privately owned park, Mbizi is acre upon acre of unspoilt woodland that has been lovingly preserved as a safe habitat for various wild animals. It is home to Giraffe, warthog, impala, some zebra among other species. At the heart of the park is the Game lodge where guests can take in some fresh country air, enjoy some peace and quiet and unwind in the company of friends or family. Mbizi Game Park offers a variety of recreational activities for day visitors or overnighters. Its location is ideal for a quick weekend outing from Harare to enjoy the outdoors, barbeque and comfortably drive back to the city in the early evening. There are 2 accommodation options at Mbizi. The Lodge, which is a farmhouse that was renovated and now offers tastefully decorated rooms with comfortable furnishings. Guests are offered Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Then there are bush cottages, these are self-contained two bedroomed units that have a fully equipped kitchen, separate bath and an entertainment area. They are very comfortable. The perfect location for group outings Mbizi also serves as a Team building centre. There is a physical challenge course designed for this purpose. Other activities offered to groups or individuals are; Horse riding, Fishing, Volleyball, Canoeing, Game drives and Bush walks.
